The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang University implements a “Four-in-one” pattern and uniquely combines the School of Stomatology of Nanchang University, the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang University, the Stomatological Hospital of Jiangxi Province and the Institute of Oral Disease of Jiangxi Province as one system. The hospital is an upper first-class stomatological hospital encompassing medical service, teaching, research, prevention, health care and training. It began as the Stomatology Department of Jiangxi Medical College which was set up in 1980 and was gradually added the name of the Stomatological Hospital of Jiangxi Province. In 2005, its name was changed from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Jiangxi Medical College to the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang University.

Situated in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi province, the hospital owns more than 410 staffs including more than 352 health professionals among whom there are 94 professionals with a vice-senior title or above, 19 people with doctors’ degree, 11 doctoral supervisors, 155 masters, 41 master supervisors, 5 staffs in the “Talent Project of Jiangxi Province”, 2 young subject leaders from the colleges in Jiangxi province, 6 young and middle-aged backbone teachers from the colleges in Jiangxi province, 13 academy and technology leaders in the health system in Jiangxi province, and 1 staff receiving the allowance from the Government of Jiangxi Province.

The hospital is a modern and specialized stomatological hospital with advanced equipment, excellent facility and beautiful environment and it is also the only upper first-class stomatological hospital in Jiangxi province. As the practical skill examination base and examiner base for the National Medical Qualification Examination, the demonstration base for the stomatological and clinical medicine of Jiangxi province, the cultivation base for stomatological medicine talents and the incubation base for new diagnosis and treatment technology of oral disease, the hospital owns more than 170 different types of imported and comprehensive dental chairs, 50 hospital beds and many other multifunctional operation beds, anesthesia machines, dental planters, stomatological microscopes and other equipment of advanced level in the world, among which the CBCT is the first oral CT in Jiangxi province and the digital image can be directly transferred to the dental beds of the doctors’, which greatly convenient the patients.

The hospital owns 16 administration departments and 23 clinical and auxiliary departments which include the Dept. of Cariology & Endodontics, the Dept. of Periodontology, the Dept. of Oral Mucosa, the Dept. of Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery, the Dept. of Prosthodontics(1),(2), the Dept. of Orthodontics (1), (2), the Dept. of Preventive Dentistry, the Dept. of Pediatric Dentistry, the Dept. of Oral Implantology, the Dept. of VIP Clinic, the Dept. of Comprehensive Treatment Clinic, Sub-outpatient Department, the Dept. of Anesthesiology, Operation Room, the Dept. of Oral Pathology, the Dept. of Radiology, Laboratory, the ECG and Physical Therapy Room, the Disinfection Supply Room, the Dental Laboratory ,etc. The annual clinic amount reaches more than 370,000. As the national examination base of oral practitioners, the hospital has become the practical skill exam base for the National Medical Qualification Examination since 2001. In 2017, it became the training base for the standardization of national resident doctors while in 2018, it became the examination base for the standardization training of resident doctors in Jiangxi province and the professional quality-controlled center for stomatology in Jiangxi province. In addition, the hospital is the affiliated unit of the control group of dental disease in Jiangxi province and the Stomatological Association of Jiangxi Province. And the hospital is responsible for guiding the dental disease prevention and treatment, the propaganda of the oral health and some other work throughout Jiangxi province.

The School of Stomatology is the school for granting first-class master’s degree in stomatology and can autonomously set up the right to grant second-class doctoral degree in dentistry. At present, the hospital has 1 institute of oral disease, 1 comprehensive laboratory of oral disease and 6 teaching and research sections which include oral medicine, oral and maxillo-facial surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, preventive dentistry, pediatric dentistry, basic science of stomatology and so on. Among those sections, oral disease, prosthodontics, and orthodontics are granted as the leading medicine subjects of Jiangxi province by the Health Commission of Jiangxi Province, the maxillo-facial surgery and preventive dentistry are listed in the construction project of leading subject in Jiangxi province by the Health Commission of Jiangxi Province. The school establishes classes at different levels including post-graduate teaching, undergraduate teaching and continuing education and cultivates more than 1000 oral medicine talents inside and outside Jiangxi province in the last 40 years. In 2014, the key laboratory of oral biomedical medicine in Jiangxi province was set up and successfully passed the acceptance inspection in 2019. In 2019, the radiology workstation of the oral and maxillo-facial surgery in “Hai Zhi Plan” also passed the acceptance inspection and in the same year, the clinic medicine research center of oral disease in Jiangxi province was set up.

The hospital undertakes more than 300 research projects among which there are 19 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 “talents of the century project” supported by the Health Commission of Jiangxi Province, 5 bidding projects of key technology, 2 important projects of key technology supported by Science and Technology Department of Jiangxi Province, 4 projects with the 3rd prize in Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Award, 2 projects with the 3rd prize in Jiangxi College Science and Technology Award. And staffs in the hospital have published more than 80 papers in SCI.

The hospital thinks highly of the communication and cooperation at home and abroad. In 2000, the hospital became sister school with the School of Stomatology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and in 2004, it became a member of the stomatology collaboration group in western China headed by West China School of Stomatology Sichuan University. The hospital signed the counterpart support agreement with Hospital of Stomatology Wuhan University in 2014 and Peking University Hospital of Stomatology in 2019. In addition, it also built up academy communication relationships with many countries and regions such as America, Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Hong Kong, and sent many visiting scholars and researchers to these countries and regions. The hospital set up a friendly inter-school cooperation relationship with the Dentistry Department of Kyushu University in 1987 and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the School of Dentistry of Temple University in 2016 and the Dentistry Department of Washington University in 2019. In addition, the hospital has held many national stomatology academic conferences and has finished many international research cooperation projects.

In May 2020, located in the 7th floor of Ruituo Capital Building in Shangdu road, the Shimao Outpatient Department in Honggutan region of Nanchang is open for trial operation.(July 2022)
